Hi, I’m Vicki… and I’m Jeff. We’re the Neer's!!
We are the lucky ducks who own and operate Canyon Bikes.
Joe and Judy O’Donnell founded Canyon Bikes in 1993. It began with a small fleet of cycling equipment plus local and tourist pleas for more family fun. The venture quickly grew to have the largest selection of rental bikes and kids trailers, plus a popular shuttle service to the trails east end (Dotsero) where riders could enjoy the entire 16 mile downhill “almost” all the way!
Jeff and I came to Glenwood Springs to ride this famous Glenwood Recreation Trail in May of 2000, with our friends the O’Donnell’s. What a ride!!
As some of you already know, Glenwood Canyon is one the prettiest places in Colorado. Jeff and I had both been through the Glenwood Canyon several times…but never on a bicycle. On our first we ride, we couldn’t get over the condition of the trail and all the wonderful amenities the recreation trail offers. We thought… “What a perfect family adventure and what a perfect business. We should be so lucky…” Before the day was over Joe was talking sell and we were talking buy. Who would have thought!!
By August of 2000, we sealed the deal, planned a move to Glenwood Springs…. oh and a wedding. Did I forget to mention that part? Jeff and I were newly engaged!
The remaining 2000 season as bike shop owners was all we had hoped. Business was great, customers were happy, and we loved our new town! We were lucky ducks!
We introduced our family and friends at a beautiful fall wedding in the courtyard of the Historic Hotel Colorado (only fitting since it is home for Canyon Bikes) one October morning. And of course, afterwards, took everyone on a gorgeous fall bike ride through our canyon.
Each spring when the bike shop prepares for another season, and the lucky ducks are unpacked, we are reminded of that May in 2000, as we rode the Glenwood Canyon Trail wishing, “We should be so lucky…”
